Alberta's 2026-2027 Budget  How has it impacted Alberta's Film and Television Tax Credit? The Alberta Provincial Legislature Building February 26th, 2026  There have been a lot of questions and misinformation surrounding Alberta's Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC) since the Provincial Budget was dropped on February 26th, 2026. I thought it might be a good idea to weigh in on what (if anything) is taking place. Contained within that budget were  some numbers and somewhat confusing rhetoric that caused many in our community to believe that our industry had just taken a major cut at the hands of the current Government. That is not actually what happened and while communication around this budget could have been stronger and much clearer, there is no "cut" to the FTTC. I have spoken to the Civic and Provincial Film Commissions as we...

2025: A Year of Progress and Growth for Local 212 despite many challenges. New Members sworn-in on April 16th 2025 2025 was a year of advancement for Local 212 despite a number of challenges to our employment and well being. The Stage side of the Local saw many victories and advancements to our Collective Agreements. In September we saw the Certification of Vertigo Theatre which was the last of the downtown professional theatres to be represented by the Local. On the Motion Picture side of the Local we managed to hold our own in a global marketplace that has seen a proliferation of new and enhanced tax credits.             IATSE Local 212 Launches its New Office and Training facility! After many years of planning, searching for land and meeting numerous budgetary and design requirements, Local 212 is proud to announce that its new training facility and office building is now open for business! It all began in 2017 when the Local began to explore options to make our building accessible to all, by adding an elevator.  The initial quotes were running well over a million dollars, so we began to explore designing and building our own building and selling the old building. We wanted flexible training spaces that would put our Local onto the IA training circuit. We looked at land with lots of parking near rapid transit and after 3 years found the perfect spot, which also had a Thrift Store called “Thriftopia" as a tenant. Thriftopia is a tenant of the property now owned by Local 212. The pandemic slowed us down but on April 23 rd  2023, we broke ground....
