2025 Local 212 President's Year in Review
2025: A Year of Progress and Growth for Local 212 despite many challenges.
2025 was a year of advancement for Local 212 despite a number of challenges to our employment and well being.
The Stage side of the Local saw many victories and advancements to our Collective Agreements. In September we saw the Certification of Vertigo Theatre which was the last of the downtown professional theatres to be represented by the Local.
On the Motion Picture side of the Local we managed to hold our own in a global marketplace that has seen a proliferation of new and enhanced tax credits. We also saw an array of global mergers which have made competition for the available work in many North-American jurisdictions much more intense.

On December 17th, International Cinematographers Guild -Local 669 Joined IATSE 212 in the first of its kind Netflix Master Agreement. 2025 saw an increase in Netflix productions with several signatory projects going into 2026. In 2026, Netflix welcomes its first Team Canada show "Granville Girls" to Alberta. We look forward to a prosperous relationship with Netflix and celebrate the advent of Canadian projects under this vital agreement. This bodes very well for future production opportunities in Alberta as Netflix continues to expand its production empire.
As the sun sets on 2025, we look ahead to a promising 2026. We already have some productions greenlit and prepping for the new year which is off to a slightly better start than 2025. F&D Scene Changes Continues to be busy and our Stage and Arena venues are well poised to have a good year ahead. Damian Petti |
