Welcome to the brand new IATSE Local 212 Offices and Training facility

IATSE Local 212 Launches its New Office and Training facility!

After many years of planning, searching for land and meeting numerous budgetary and design requirements, Local 212 is proud to announce that its new training facility and office building is now open for business!

It all began in 2017 when the Local began to explore options to make our building accessible to all, by adding an elevator.  The initial quotes were running well over a million dollars, so we began to explore designing and building our own building and selling the old building.

We wanted flexible training spaces that would put our Local onto the IA training circuit. We looked at land with lots of parking near rapid transit and after 3 years found the perfect spot, which also had a Thrift Store called “Thriftopia" as a tenant.

Thriftopia is a tenant of the property now owned by Local 212.

The pandemic slowed us down but on April 23rd 2023, we broke ground. GST Wood and Vice President Lewis of the IA International Board were on hand with Various Politicians including the, then Jobs Minister Brian Jean, and NDP Leader, Rachel Notley.

On Saturday, July 20th, we held our Grand opening, and President Loeb was on hand to cut the ribbon. Thank you to all who were able to share the joy with us on Saturday.  There is a plaque in our Lobby which commemorates the occasion.  We look forward to growing our training offerings and working with other Locals and the International Education Department to help expand the resources and assets already being shared.

I would like to thank the Staff of Local 212 who all took on massive additional workloads in order to pull this off.  Assistant to the President Sarah McKenzie and Education Coordinator, Trish Weeks went above and beyond but without the stalwart and relentless perseverance of our Operations Manager, Dee Picciano, this project would not be the tremendous success it is today.
